Digital TV Aerial Alignment Signal Strength Meter Labgear DVB-T

Labgear Digital TV aerial signal strength meter. This useful device makes aligning your TV aerial a breeze. Now that analogue TV has been phased out it is no longer possible to judge correct aerial alignment by analysing the quality of the analogue TV picture.

Optimum digital reception and the ability to receive all of the digital TV channels needs a wideband digital TV aerial that is correctly aligned. This device will deal with the alignment issue easily.

The method of operation is so simple. Simply insert a PP3 9V volt battery into the unit. Swing your aerial round until the maximum signal strength is achieved. This is indicated by the maximum number of LEDS lit on the meter scale.

For the technically minded the aim is to achieve a signal strength as close to 80dB uV, ( dB microvolts), as possible. The specification as laid down by broadcasters and equipment manufacturers is to aim for a signal strength of 60 - 80 dB uV.

Most new equipment will perform perfectly in this range, however some older equipment with a less sensitive tuner may struggle with reception at the lower end of the specification, e.g. 60 dB uV.

The unit is equipped with two F socket connectors. One for the aerial connection and one for connection to the TV. The meter can be inserted in line with the aerial and the TV if necessary. It would normally just be connected to the aerial and the adjustment carried out in that way. The connection to the meter can be made using the F plug to coax female adaptor if necessary. This allows the existing male coax plug at the end of your downlead to be connected directly to the meter.
