Description
LG high quality genuine 800mA, 0.8A, 5kV high voltage fuse assembly for modern microwave ovens.
This particular fuse is a little different from other high voltage
fuses. It clips directly on to the spade terminal of the high voltage
transformer, there is a 4.7mm spade terminal built into the fuse
housing.
The flying lead then connects to the high voltage capacitor. This
particular style of fuse is commonly fitted to many brands of ovens that
originate from supermarkets.
It is also used in some Panasonic, LG and DeLonghi models. If your
fuse looks the same as this one then it will almost certainly fit. Check
carefully the spade sizes in your oven as the fuse end has a 4.7mm
terminal whilst the red lead end is 6.3mm.
Compare the specifications and dimensions given below:
- Fuse rating 0.8A - 800mA
- Voltage rating: 5kV - 5000V
- Fuse body length: 63mm
- Fuse body width:12mm
- Fuse body depth: 16mm
- Lead length: 115mm
- Terminations : 1 x 6.3mm spade terminal at lead end, 1 x 4.7mm spade terminal at fuse end
The high voltage fuse is wired in series with the high voltage feed
from the high voltage transformer to the magnetron. The fuse will fail
if there is a fault in the high voltage circuit.
Such a fault could be a short circuit magnetron or a short circuit
high voltage rectifier. In our experience however the fuse commonly
fails for no apparent reason.
The fuse just gets stressed every time the magnetron starts which
eventually leads to its demise. It is also common for the fuse to fail
if the microwave cooking cycle is started with nothing in the
cavity. Sparking can occur in the cavity if a metal object, eg a spoon,
is left in during the microwave cooking cycle and this can also lead to
the fuse failing. In almost every case replacement of this fuse will get
your oven back to full working order.
If you have a microwave with this type of fuse then the symptom you
will get if it has failed is no cooking action. The microwave will
appear to start and countdown the time but there will be no heating
action. The fuse is easy to check visibly by unclipping the plastic
housing apart. You can then visually examine the wire in the fuse to see
if it has broken. For the more technically minded a continuity check
with an ohm meter will also check the fuse. A short circuit reading
should be obtained if the fuse is intact.
This type of fuse is fitted to many brands of microwaves and this
particular type of fuse is suitable for replacement in any brand. Check the rating of the original fuse and replace with the correct
value. This listing is for the 800mA version but other values and types
are available in our microwave parts section.
To fit this fuse it is necessary to remove the outer casing so
replacement should only be attempted by those who have experience in the
repair of electrical appliances. High voltages are present in a
microwave oven and it is important that the appliance is disconnected
from the mains before any servicing work is carried out.
