Description

High quality SIBA / ESKA ceramic time delay microwave fuses in various values and lengths. Different pack sizes are also offered. Choose the current rating in Amps and length in mm that you require. Also choose from multiples of 1, 2, 4 or 10 fuses.

The fuses supplied are the two most common sizes fitted, 20mm and 32mm in length. Obviously we do recommend that you measure the length of your old fuse before ordering but for easy identification the 20mm fuses are a little smaller in length than the diameter of a One Pound or One Euro Coin. The 32mm fuse is about 10mm longer in length than the diameter of the same coins.

The fuses are easily identified by looking at the silver end cap of your old fuse. The current value will be shown as T10A for a 10A fuse. Other nomenclatures shown on the fuse cap may be AH or S. The fuses offered here replace them as well.

This type of fuse is commonly found in many brands of microwave ovens. It is normally used as the mains input fuse and is designed to fail if there is a fault. Such a fault could be a short circuit magnetron or a short circuit high voltage rectifier. In our experience however this fuse commonly fails for no apparent reason. The fuse just gets stressed every time the magnetron starts which eventually leads to its demise.

These high quality time lag fuses from SIBA & ESKA in Germany will withstand the high in rush current present when the microwave starts which will prevent a phantom failure at an inconvenient time. Please bear in mind though that if the fuse fails immediately at switch on there is another fault in your oven which will need to be investigated.

If you have a microwave with this type of fuse then the symptom you will get if it has failed is generally a completely dead machine. Sometimes however you may get a no cooking action fault depending on what part of the circuit the fuse is fitted.

In order to check the fuse you need to use an ohm meter or a continuity tester. A zero ohm reading will be obtained for a working fuse. If you fit a new fuse and it fails immediately then you have another fault and you should consult a microwave engineer.

Two types of fuses are offered in this listing as follows:

  • 20mm Length x 5mm Diameter
  • 32mm Length x 6.3mm Diameter

It is important to check your old fuse before ordering as the different sizes are not compatible with each other, they will not fit in the fuse holder.

The fuses can also be used in any other application where a time lag fuse is required such as a power supply.

Sometimes the subject of the fuse rated voltage comes up as the fuses supplied may have a 500V rating on them. Generally, the line or mains voltage in Europe is 240V AC so the difference does cause confusion.

The crucial specification of a fuse is the current rating as this is the rated current flow, which if exceeded, will cause the fuse to rupture and break the circuit.

The voltage rating of a fuse is the maximum voltage that can be applied across the end caps without a sustained arc forming inside the fuse. The maximum voltage that can be applied in Europe is 240V so the fuse must have this minimum rating. If the fuse voltage rating is higher the fuse rupture will be quicker and cleaner with no internal arc forming.

In essence a fuse with a voltage rating higher than 240V is a better option as the break is cleaner and quicker and the fuse will not catch fire internally. In the event of a genuine fault a quicker cleaner break can prevent damage to other parts of your oven or appliance.

To fit this fuse it is necessary to remove the outer casing so replacement should only be attempted by those who have experience in the repair of electrical appliances.

High voltages are present in a microwave oven and it is important that the appliance is disconnected from the mains before any servicing work is carried out.
