Description
5 pack of Panasonic radial FR series aluminium electrolytic capacitors. Range of values from 4.7uf to 4700uf in various voltage values from 6.3V to 63V. When carrying out repairs to modern consumer electronic equipment the use of good quality capacitors, like Panasonic, will ensure a long lasting repair. Panasonic branded capacitors are a name to trust. We repair consumer electronic equipment and we always use Panasonic branded electrolytics. They never fail and we never see recalls on the jobs we carry out using them. It's well worth paying a little extra for quality.
The capacitors supplied here are the latest FR range of ultra low ESR types. The capacitors have a 105 degrees centigrade temperature rating with a long endurance / lifetime of 5000-10,000 hours depending on the value selected. The FR range of capacitors have a compact casing making them ideal for repairs where space is tight. Often the original capacitor will be bigger than the FR series replacement yet it will have a better Endurance / ESR specification. Always check the new capacitor dimensions against what you are replacing to check that there will not be a fitting issue.
Most modern equipment such as televisions and satellite receivers use switching power supplies rather than a conventional mains transformer arrangement. Typically the power supply switching frequency can be around 40kHz. The resulting ripple produced on the secondary supplies gives smoothing capacitors rather a hard life. The impedance of a capacitor at a specific frequency will cause a current flow dependent on the ESR, (equivalent series resistance) of the capacitor. This is the effective series resistance of the capacitor and like any resistor heat will be produced as current flows through it. The lower the ESR the less heat that will be generated in the capacitor. It is the heat generated in the capacitor that after time will lead to its demise. A defective over heated capacitor will leak electrolyte from its head as the pressure builds up inside it. When carrying out manufacturer warranty repairs we often see defective capacitors in equipment less than a year old. The drive to reduce the price of equipment leads to the use of substandard components during the manufacturing process. Electrolytic capacitors can amount to a significant part of the component cost of a piece of equipment hence the use of cheaper versions is still widespread.
Fitting Panasonic capacitors will greatly improve reliability of the power supply in a modern television for example. If you look at the attached pictures you will see in addition to the Panasonic capacitors featured in this listing a view of some defective capacitors which have failed due to overheating. Additionally look at the test result of an ESR measurement of a faulty electrolytic which is NOT a Panasonic! Typical ESR values of high value electrolytics should be around 0.04 ohms.

The lifetime / endurance of an electrolytic capacitor is often misunderstood. The lifetime rating of say 10,000 @ 105 degrees centigrade is the lifetime to failure at that temperature. 105 degrees centigrade is the maximum operating temperature of the capacitor but the actual operating temperature should be much lower say 20 degrees centigrade but this will depend on the application. The lifetime to failure will be much higher at nominal operating temperatures.
