BT Telephone Splitter Doubler With Inline IDC Breakout Connection

2 way telephone splitter / doubler for UK BT telephone sockets.

This device is a standard two way telephone splitter that allows two telephones to be connected to one BT standard telephone socket.

The splitter has a standard 431A male plug and two standard sockets. The splitter can be used in its basic form to connect two telephone devices to a standard socket. Such a configuration could be a telephone and a separate answering machine.

Unlike other splitters this one has a removable lower panel with IDC terminals for connecting telephone devices in a hard wired manner. This is especially useful for connections to extension sockets, alarm systems and other systems that require a telephone connection through via a hard wired cable.

Strictly speaking end users are not supposed to dismantle the BT master telephone socket in a premises. This splitter allows you to connect extensions without any tampering of the BT master socket.

Wired extensions should be connected using pin 2 and pin 5 of the IDC terminals and this would normally be done using the blue pair of a telephone cable. An IDC insertion tool also known as a Krone tool is best for connecting the cables.

When the connections are complete the snap down cover can be pressed into place covering the connections and clamping the cable in place. The cover has very strong tamper proof clips to prevent further removal of the cover. It is recommended that you test your installation before snapping the cover in place as it is very difficult to remove again.
